Current Events: Social Media is Changing Politics

Ellen Leanse has begun to research and explore the impact of social media on the America political landscape. She states that:

“articles are emerging everywhere about the Obama campaign and how its use of social media led to its groundbreaking success. Let there be no doubt: the campaign’s insightful, savvy use of tools like Facebook, Twitter, blogging, and of course its brilliantly-conceived (and managed) web presence. Every touch-point led to success.”

On a similar frame of thought, Peter Corbett of iStrategy Labs says in a discussion which occurred on Twitter that “there’s no question [Pres. Obama] will [use social media while in the White House]. Forget where [you] saw it, but it would be sweet to see www.whitehouse.gov turn into the POTUS lifestream!”

This is a fascinating topic to explore and discuss.

There's a hung ground swell here in DC around transparency in government and the excitement is reaching a crescendo now that Obama has secured the Presidency. DC is about to lead the world in this area and is sooo needed – soo exciting!
